Schools and Early Childhood Education Centres have an important role to play in an emergency.
School staff have a responsibility to look after students in an emergency situation, but also may have their own family to worry about. It is extremely important that planning discussions take place with all staff to outline expectations of them in an emergency.
It is critical that the school or early childhood centre has their own:
- Emergency plan
- Hazard identification list
- Evacuating and sheltering-in-place procedures
- Emergency resources and supplies
- Safety equipment
- Children release guideline
- Children release forms.
